Dead Walk Designs’ big ghost train project for Currys Funpark has inspired parts of a new children’s novel that comes out today! The Doom Town Dummies, a supernatural adventure for ages 8+, was written while the ghost train project was taking place and reflects much of what can be seen in the dark ride.
Liam, author of The Doom Town Dummies, explains: “It was a huge privilege to work on the amazing Dead Walk Designs ghost train project in 2018, helping out with some painting and prop making. I was working on my supernatural novel The Doom Town Dummies at the time and would often do some writing in the evenings after working on the ride with the team.
“The book had already taken some inspiration from Disney’s Phantom Manor and Haunted Mansion rides, because of their wonderful atmospheres and the ways in which they balance paranormal peril with humour. To then work on the Dead Walk Designs ghost train project was really enriching for my imagination!”
Liam continues: “Seeing all those ghosts up close helped me think about how I would write about the ghost in my story. But what was extra inspiring was being around the animatronic figures and mannequins. The Doom Town Dummies is about a village of eerie shop-window dummies, and they provide a creepy atmosphere as they appear to watch the book’s hero Colette Planchette with their lifeless eyes! What better place to do some first-hand research than a ghost train in the making?”
