The National Sea Life Centre have built a new Marine Rescue facility which is to be used to home rescued sea mammals during rehabilitation period. We were asked by Nautilus to build the themed elements for both the in-tank areas and the public dry side areas, working with the Merlin design team and other creative trades to create the environment.
We had to be sure that the theming in tank was built to accommodate a variety of species over time, using hand sculpted rock work which was built using materials which can withstand a salt water environment. A relief carving of 2 swimming otters was included in the brief, as an homage to the 2 previous otter residents of the old exhibit.
In the public areas we were to build some realistic tree sculptures around the viewing windows with moss and snow effects and the rockwork surround of the underwater viewing window. Artificial trees were installed to add interest.
