This is up there with the most fun we have had on a project.
We were asked to renovate the existing Ghost Train Ride at Barry’s Amusements in Portrush (Northern Ireland), which had been relatively untouched since it was built 50 years ago. A few animatronic characters were placed in the corners of the otherwise blackout corridors and it was in desperate need of an update.
We were asked to keep it at a level which could be enjoyed by customers of all ages, so it made sense to go with a traditional horror theme.
We stripped what was there back to the bones and re themed the ride from start to finish, including reworking the animatronics, adding lighting and sound effects and updating all the signage to suit the theme.
The only part which we wanted to conserve was the existing 30 year old mural on the ride entrance which was in great condition, so we created windows around the characters in the painting.
We split the ride into 3 segments for variety. The Haunted House, into the Spooky Forest finishing up in the Mad Professors Dungeon. We decided to go for a vintage black and white scheme for the dungeon which turned out great, the photographs you see here are all in full colour!!
The last few images show the ride before work started, and we have included snippets from the design document before each section of the ride.
The whole team worked their socks off and we all enjoyed every minute. Fingers crossed for more projects like this in the future!!!
