What a year 2023 was for Area 404!
Planning began late in 2022 with the idea to completely redesign and rebuild Area 404 to take the district to the next level for the 2023 show. Starting with concept illustrations, we began developing the design to include frontages for 11 venues, the bar and various performance spaces, built into a full interactive 3D model of the district.
With Boomtown’s constant efforts to create a greener festival, it was important to keep sustainability in mind when building the sets, sourcing materials as local as possible, cutting down the use of new plastics and using a completely natural mineral paint for all the scenic effects.
As part of the 404 build we constructed a giant Titan central art feature, which in itself was quite a substantial project. To learn more about this head over to our projects page where we have a separate post with more images and information on the build.
Despite constant rain throughout the build the 50 strong build and scenic crew really smashed it out of the park. A huge shout out to the crew, to Revolting Artists who came and added an extra layer with their paste ups, Gorilla Tactics / Wrong Side of the Tracks who were a treat to work along side and built an awesome stage, PF events who did a great job of the lighting, Third Mind Productions who really put the cherry on the cake with the amazing theatrical performances and all the other technicians, artists and organisers who all helped pull it all together.
