The 30 year old Penguin Pool at Birdland Park & Gardens was looking very tired and dated and we were asked to come up with a fresh design to add some life to the area, whilst also providing an enriching environment for the penguins to explore.
Great care was taken to ensure ease of access for the residents, particularly as most of the birds are rescues and often have long term injuries which impact mobility.
Access ramps and gangways were incorporated into the theming and underwater rock work.
The full scale fishing boat wreck was built using sculpted concrete render, ensuring longevity and a good solid surface for both the penguins and staff. Whilst the 3 fishing huts in the lower enclosure housed various nest boxes and shelters as retreats for the birds.
Included are some images of the old pool and 3D images from the design package.
